VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team fell 5-2 to Delaware Wednesday at the Villanova Softball Complex.
Carly Zych (L, 2-4) took the loss for the 'Cats (8-31), pitching three innings, striking out one, walking one and giving up two runs on four hits.
The Blue Hens (20-19) took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run.
The score remained 1-0 until the third, when Delaware scored on an RBI single. Villanova responded in the bottom of the third on a
Maranda Runco RBI single to make it a 2-1 game.
Runco leads VU in RBIs with 29.
The Blue Hens extended their lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning on a three-run home run.
Villanova scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on
Bella Wren's first career RBI, a fielder's choice to the left side which scored
Lilly St. Jean from third.
However, Delaware got out of the inning having surrendered a single run and closing a 5-2 win.
Notably,
Jacquelyn Cox went 3-3 at the plate with three singles and a run.
