VILLANOVA, Pa. - For the second time in five weeks the Villanova women's cross country team will gain incredible exposure when a congratulatory display more than 30 stories high appears in Times Square this weekend in New York City. The display is a product of American Eagle Outfitters (AEO), a BIG EAST sponsor, and will be displayed from Friday through Sunday.
The congratulatory banner will appear on the side of the AEO building in Times Square and will be a part of the playlist of ads in that space for 48 hours during the weekend. A similar congratulatory ad after the team won the BIG EAST Championships was rotated into the playlist six times per hour and could be viewed for 15 seconds each time it was displayed.
For those who will be in the area this weekend, the AEO building is located at 1551-1555 Broadway on the corner of 46th street in the heart of Manhattan.
This second display in honor of the Wildcats comes after the team won its second consecutive national championship last month. Led by senior Sheila Reid (Newmarket, Ont.) winning her first individual national title, Villanova finished off its second straight undefeated season and won the ninth national championship in the program's history.
Head coach Gina Procaccio had her team ranked No. 1 in the nation from start to finish this season and four of the team's five scoring runners at the national championship meet earned All-America honors. Reid was closely followed by senior Amanda Marino (Jackson, N.J.) in eighth place, while senior Ali Smith (Columbia, Md.) was 20th and junior Bogdana Mimic (Pancevo, Serbia) 22nd. In addition, freshman Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) made a very strong debut on the national scene with a 69th place finish. Seniors Sarah Morrison (Chambersburg, Pa.) and Callie Hogan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) rounded out the Wildcats contingent at the NCAA meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
