Reid Named BIG EAST Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Oct. 21, 2010
PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Fresh off winning the women's race at the Penn State National last weekend, senior Sheila Reid (Newmarket, Ont.) has been named the BIG EAST Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, it was announced this afternoon. This marks the second time in her career that Reid has received this honor.
Reid finished the 6K race at Penn State last Saturday with a time of 20:23 on the Blue and White Golf Courses, winning by a margin of seven seconds in a field that included 304 runners. Her performance helped Villanova capture the team title with a score of 26, good enough to outdistance runner-up, BIG EAST foe and seventh-ranked Syracuse.
In their first two scored meets of the season, the defending national champion Wildcats have gone up against stiff competition at first the Notre Dame Invitational and again at Penn State last weekend. Villanova has won both of these competitions by a comfortable margin and remains atop the national rankings this week.
Next up for the team is the BIG EAST Championships next weekend, with Syracuse hosting the conference meet.
NOTE: Reid was also the BIG EAST Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week last season after winning the Bill Dellinger Invitational.
