VILLANOVA, Pa.--At the Pre-NCAA Meet on Saturday the surroundings will be familiar to Villanova, which is running at the site of this year's NCAA Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The course was most recently home to the national championships two years ago and has been a frequent venue for the NCAA meet.
On Saturday the Wildcats will have their top seven runners competing in the Women's Blue Race starting at 11:40 a.m. A total of 51 teams are assigned to Blue race, including 20 that are ranked in the top five of their respective region. The rest of the Villanova lineup will compete in the Women's Open Race, which goes off at 2:10 p.m. The women's races are each 6,000 meters long.
Villanova returns to action for the first time since the team competed at the Paul Short Run two weeks ago. In that meet the Wildcats came in third in the team standings and were led by seniors Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) and Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.), who each notched top-10 finishes. Lipari placed sixth in a field of 406 runners and Akande finished in eighth place.
Lipari has run two races this season and was selected as the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week following each of her starts. She opened the season with a first place finish at the Main Line Invitational.
Live results from the races on Saturday can be accessed via the link at the top of this release. A recap with full results will be posted on Villanova.com late Saturday afternoon.
