VILLANOVA, Pa. - Senior Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) is the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, as announced this afternoon by the league office. Lipari was the top Villanova runner for the second straight week and came in sixth overall at the Paul Short Run over the weekend.
Last week's Paul Short race was the first scored meet of the season for the Wildcats, who were running in a field of 48 teams that included four other nationally-ranked squads. Villanova came in third in the team standings and finished ahead of three of the teams that entered with national rankings. The team championship was won by BIG EAST foe Georgetown, while Dartmouth came in second.
Lipari covered the 6,000 meter course on the Goodman Campus at Lehigh in 20:30 and came in sixth out of 406 runners in the race. She finished ahead of the top runner from the Hoyas and was the first BIG EAST runner across the finish line, finishing one second and two places ahead of teammate Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.).
Villanova is off this weekend and will return to action at the Pre-NCAA Meet next Saturday (Oct. 19) in Terre Haute, Ind.
