VILLANOVA, Pa.--The first scored meet of the season for the women's cross country team will be held in familiar surroundings, as Villanova competes at the Paul Short Run on Saturday morning. The annual event on the Lehigh campus moves to a Saturday this year and the women's College Gold race features a number of the top teams in the nation.
The schedule for Saturday's meet begins with the Open race at 10 a.m., while the women's College Gold race on the 6K course goes off at 11:45 a.m. Each collegiate teams is allowed 10 runners in the scored race and the Wildcats will be one of 48 teams competing in the Gold race.
Villanova is one of three BIG EAST squads in the race, with Georgetown and Xavier also a part of the field. The Gold race also features five nationally-ranked teams, including the Wildcats and the Hoyas along with Cornell, Penn State and West Virginia.
So far this season Villanova has run in two non-scored meets. After beginning the season at the Friend Big Five Invitational the Wildcats ran at the Main Line Invitational last week. Senior Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) was the individual winner at that meet and as a result was named the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week earlier this week.
Results of the Paul Short Run can be accessed via the link at the top of this release, while a full recap of the race will be available on Villanova.com on Saturday afternoon.
