KENOSHA, Wis. - Seniors Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) and Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.) each earned All-BIG EAST honors and Villanova came in fourth in the team standings at the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday afternoon. Lipari was the individual runner-up with a time of 19:56 on the 6,000 meter course at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, while Akande finished in 12th place (20:47).
Lipari and Akande each earned All-BIG EAST recognition for the third time in their careers. The time for Lipari is a career best and marks the first time she has finished in under 20 minutes on a 6,000 meter course. She has been the Wildcats top finisher in each of the four races she has run this season. Emily Sisson from Providence was the individual champion with a winning time of 19:49.
The other scoring runners for Villanova were junior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.), sophomore Sydney Harris (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman Julie Williams (Wilmington, Del.). Schappert came in 23rd in the field of 80 runners with a time of 21:37, Harris finished 26th (21:45) and Williams came in 34th (22:15).
In the team standings the Wildcats had 93 points and finished behind team champion Providence (28), as well as Georgetown (47) and Butler (66). Following Villanova were Xavier (130), Marquette (155), Creighton (228), DePaul (242), Seton Hall (277) and St. John's (299).
