Wildcats Ran Strong at Haverford Invitational
Oct. 24, 2011
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior Ariann Neutts (Succasunna, N.J.) led a group of Villanova runners with a runner-up finish at the Haverford Invitational on Friday afternoon, where she came in with a time of 17:30 on the three-mile course. Five runners competed for the Wildcats in the local meet, while two others ran as unattached entries. Ali Smith, who only has eligibility remaining for the outdoor track season, was an unattached runner and won the race with a time of 16:51.
Neutts raced for the first time this season and was followed in close succession by junior Meghan Smith (Newark, Del.) in third place (17:46) and sophomore Mary Bohi (Shamong, N.J.) in fifth (18:31) out of the field of 77 runners. Smith and Bohi each lowered their times from the season-opening Main Line Invitational held on the same course at Haverford College last month.
Rounding out the Villanova lineup was junior Shannon Browne (Staten Island, N.Y.) in seventh place (18:35) and classmate Anna Francis (Brookhaven, N.Y.) in 19th (19:25).
In addition, freshman Amanda Borroughs (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) ran unattached and finished in ninth place with a time of 18:44.
Next up for the Wildcats is the BIG EAST Championships this coming Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
