MAAC Tournament Preview: Wildcats Prepare for Action

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The water polo team will venture to Marist College Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. tomorrow for the 2012 Water Polo Championship that begins this weekend on April 28th and April 29th.
1) Iona College (22-11 Overall, 11-1 MAAC)
2) Marist College (18-18 Overall, 10-2 MAAC)
3) Wagner College (19-17 Overall, 9-3 MAAC)
4) Villanova University (8-20 Overall, 4-8 MAAC)
The first semifinal matchup features top-seeded and defending champion No. 20 Iona College against fourth-seeded Villanova University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28.
It will be a tough challenge for the `Cats in their tournament opener as they face the team that swept the MAAC preseason polls with 48 points and garnered the highest amount of wins in MAAC play.
In each of the three regular-season meetings, Iona has come out victorious. The Gaels have outscored Villanova 44-14 in those matches. They will be seeking a second-consecutive MAAC Water Polo title and third overall.
Second-seeded Marist College and third-seeded Wagner College will clash in the second semifinal of the day at 3 p.m.
The championship match will occur on Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. The winner of the championship will receive the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Water Polo Championship.
