Wells Named Southern Division Athlete of the Week

Wells made 11 saves in Villanova's 10-3 win over St. Francis (NY) in the 2004 regular season finale.

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Villanova women's water polo team picked up an individual honor on Thursday, as sophomore goalie Jess Wells (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) earned Southern Division Athlete of the Week honors, it was announced by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.

Wells made 11 saves in Villanova's 10-3 win over St. Francis (NY) in the 2004 regular season finale. For the game, Wells had a 78.6 save percentage, and added two assists to the Wildcat attack.

For the season, Wells turned in a 6.00 goals against average in her nine starts. She will lead Villanova (7-13) into this weekend's Southern Division Championships at the Villanova Swim Center. The Wildcats, seeded fourth in bracket A, will take on Princeton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and then Maryland at 1:00 p.m.
