VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Villanova water polo team (1-8 overall, 0-0 MAAC) will continue its California trip on Monday as they travel to face Whittier following a match against Chapman on Tuesday. Play is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. eastern time.
Last time out
Villanova is coming off play at the Claremont Convergence in which they went 1-3 in the tournament. The team fell it is first two games to Panoma- Pitzer and host Claremont-Mudd Scripps. Then the team bounced back on the second day with a win against La Verne 11-9 followed by a loss to Cal-Baptist.
Senior Dominique Clark had a strong performance at the Convergence as she tallied 14 goals over the course of four games. Freshman Charlotte Curran also had a successful weekend as she scored three goals in the game against CMS.
Scouting the opponents
Whittier is currently 1-7 and coming a recent loss to UC San Diego 17-2. Villanova last faced Whittier in the 2015-16 season when they defeated the Poets 9-8. The Poets currently lead the all-time series 2-1. Whittier’s top goal scorer this season is Jacqueline Au who scored four goals in the previous match against Cal State Monterey Bay.
Chapman is currently 3-7 overall and is coming off a win against MAAC conference rival St. Francis Brooklyn (N.Y.). The top goal scorer for Chapman is Audrey Hattori who currently has 13 goals this season. Villanova defeated Chapman in the 2015-16 season 14-11 and currently leads the all-time series 3-0.
The team will begin conference play against St. Francis Brooklyn on Mar. 10 at 10:30 a.m. as well as host Siena at 3:00 p.m.
