New Rochelle, N.Y. - In the third place game of the inaugural MAAC Women's Water Polo championship, Villanova defeated St. Francis (NY), 10-9. Villanova jumped out to an early lead by scoring three goals in the first period. Kimberley Pare netted two goals while Monica Pommier added a goal of her own.

St. Francis (NY) made a comeback in the second quarter with four goals. Megan Nolan paced the Terriers with two goals in the quarter while Carmit Rueven and Jelena Maljkovic scored one goal apiece. The two teams went into halftime tied 4-4.

The two teams added a goal each in the third period. The game remained tied at the end of regulation 7-7. With Villanova leading 8-7 with 2 seconds left in the first overtime, Jelena Maljkovic of St. Francis (NY) scored from mid-pool.

In the second period of overtime, Kimberley Pare scored two goals including the eventual game winner for Villanova. Maljkovic added a goal for St. Francis (NY) to bring the final score to 10-9.

Villanova finishes the season with an 11-21 overall record.
