Wagner defeated Villanova, 13-11, in the opening round of the 2003 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's water polo championship, held at Iona College's Mulcahy Center.

Wagner took a 6-5 lead after the first quarter, paced by three goals by Jamie Fullen. Villanova tied the game at 7-7 at the halftime break and both squads ended three quarters of play knotted at 9-9.

Fullen added two more goals in the fourth quarter, helping lead the Seahawks to a 13-11 decision. She had eight goals in the match. For Villanova, Kim Pare tallied four goals.

Wagner will play the winner of the St. Francis-NY/Iona game for the championship title whereas Villanova will take on the loser for third place.

This championship marks the first ever MAAC Women's Water Polo championship. The League was formed in 2002 making it the 26th sport sponsored by the MAAC.
