Wildcats Compete in MAAC Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The fourth-seeded Villanova women's water polo team (10-20, 6-9 MAAC) competed in the MAAC Championship on Saturday and Sunday. The Wildcats fell to top-seeded Wagner, 16-6, in the semifinals and lost to Iona 13-7 in the consolation game.

Against the Seahawks on Saturday, Naomi Ng led the team with four goals while Callan Edwards and Sarina Shibata each had one for Villanova.

The Seahawks took an 11-5 lead at halftime. Wagner held the Wildcats to just one goal in the second half.

On Sunday against the Gaels, Iona took a 10-2 lead into halftime. Callan Edwards recorded a hat trick in the game, while Sarina Shibata scored twice and Sheila Gerrity and Naomi Ng each tallied one.

Wagner was the winner of the MAAC Championship. On Friday, Ng was named to the All-MAAC First Team, while Shibata and Edwards earned spots on the All-Conference Second Team.

The Wildcats finished the season with 10 wins, the most since the team won 11 in 2007. Villanova competed in the MAAC Championship for the third straight season.
