NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Villanova Wildcats traveled to New Rochelle, N.Y., on Sunday, April 7, where they split two MAAC contests. Villanova earned a 12-7 win over VMI and fell to host Iona by a score of 12-3. After today's results, Villanova is now 7-24 overall and 4-4 in MAAC play.
In the VMI victory, the Wildcats were led by the Hawaiian connection of freshman Sarina Shibata and senior Hannah Ishida who were also high school classmates at the Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. Shibata scored a team-high four goals to go with two assists, while Ishida registered two goals and a team-best three assists.
Villanova also received two goal performances by both senior Julia Penkal (Harleysville, Pa.) and freshman Naomi Ng (Kapolei, Hawaii). The other two Wildcat goals were scored by sophomore Callan Edwards (Oxnard, Calif.) and freshman Lizzie Newman (Lafayette, Calif.).
In the Iona game, Edwards, Ng and freshman Robyn Bastian (Evanston, Ill.) accounted for Villanova's thee goals. Penkal also added two assists in the setback. Conrath posted eight saves, while junior Maddi Moore was credited with three saves.
Villanova will conclude the 2013 regular season next weekend. The Wildcats will travel to New York on Saturday, April 13, to play St. Francis (NY) and Wagner College. The Wildcats will face Marist and Siena on Sunday, April 14. Sunday's contests are scheduled to be played at Wagner College.
