Villanova Water Polo Posts 1-2 Record at ECAC Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--- On April 1-2, the No. 18 nationally ranked Villanova University women's water polo team traveled to Brown University in Providence, R.I., for the ECAC Water Polo Tournament. The Wildcats recorded a 1-2 record during the weekend's festivities to give them a 14-9 overall record on the season.

In the first game of the ECAC Tournament on Saturday, April 1, Villanova lost to the University of Massachusetts, 8-6, in overtime. Janine Kusza led the `Cats with three goals, while Brigitte Bayster scored two and Carrie Boyle added one. Sophomore Carly Sproul took the loss in goal, despite blocking six shots and making five steals.

Later in the day against Harvard, Villanova was handed its second defeat of the day, by the score of 10-1. Bayster scored the lone goal for the Wildcats, giving her three in two games. Sproul again got the loss, but saved four shots in the contest.

Villanova would end the tournament on a high note, however, as the `Cats defeated Bucknell 12-9 on Sunday, April 2. Bayster was tremendous for `Nova, tallying six goals, one assist and seven steals. Kusza was the only other `Nova player with multiple goals, netting two in the game. Sproul earned her first win of the tournament in net, saving a team-high four shots.
