Wildcat Water Polo Tallies 3-1 Weekend in Nation's Capital
March 26, 2000 WASHINTON, D.C.--- On March 25-26, in a CWPA League Tournament at George Washington University, the No. 18 nationally ranked Villanova women's water polo team finished the weekend with a 3-1 record to improve the Wildcats' season mark to 13-7. Against the host Colonials of GW, Villanova got five goals and three steals by Erin Agee en route to a 14-9 victory. Giving the Wildcat offense a boost as well were Sharon Fuller, Joie Marhefka and Carrie Boyle who each netted two goals. Senior co-captain Brigitte Bayster led the `Nova attack with six assists. Getting the win in goal was sophomore Carly Sproul who had four blocks. The Wildcats received a fine all-around effort versus Maryland, holding the Terrapins to just three goals in a 12-3 win. Boyle had four goals, while Agee and Bayster each added two. Sproul got her second win of the tournament with seven blocks. Villanova's final victory of the tournament came by way of a lop-sided 16-4 win over James Madison. Agee once again led the Wildcat charge with four goals, while Sproul and fellow goalkeeper Amanda Sewald combined to save six shots. In a battle of nationally ranked foes, Villanova was downed by Princeton, 8-2, despite one goal each by Fuller and Bayster.
The Wildcats will resume play on April 1-2, traveling to Brown University for the ECAC Tournament.
