Wildcat Water Polo Perfect at Villanova Invitational

Villanova, Pa.--- On March 18-19, in the Villanova Invitational water polo tournament at the Villanova Swim Center, the No. 19 nationally ranked Wildcat women's water polo team recorded a perfect 4-0 mark to improve their record to 10-6 overall on the season.

In its first game of the tournament on Saturday morning, Villanova defeated Penn State by the score of 14-6. The `Cats jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead after the first period behind three goals by senior Brigitte Bayster. Up 8-4 at the half, Villanova put the game away in the third by outscoring the Nittany Lions 5-1. The Wildcats would go on to defeat Penn State 14-6. Carrie Boyle had four goals for Villanova, while Bayster, Joie Marhefka and Katherine Kaufold each had three.

Matching up against Salem Teikyo in game two, the Wildcats tallied another lop-sided victory, 15-5. Villanova led 9-4 at intermission, and scored three each in the third and fourth periods to cruise to their eighth win of the year. Erin Agee had a game-high four goals to spark the Wildcat offensive attack.

Villanova completed its Saturday sweep later that night, beating Queens College 9-7. Bayster was outstanding yet again for the Wildcats, netting three goals and adding one assist and five steals. `Nova would make it a perfect tournament on Sunday morning, as head coach Allyson Gillespie's Wildcats beat Slippery Rock 12-9.

Villanova will get back into action on March 25-26, traveling to Washington D.C., to play in a CWPA League Tournament hosted by George Washington.
