VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Villanova University women's water polo team defeated the University of Pennsylvania 14-3 on Wednesday, March 18, for their sixth straight victory to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season at 6-6.
The Wildcats had lost the first six games of their inaugural season, before beating Occidental 11-10 on March 7, for their first of what is now six consecutive victories.
Against the Quakers of UPenn in a matchup played at the Villanova Swim Center, Villanova was led by sophomore Brigitte Bayster (Chicago, Ill./ Fenwick) who scored a game-high seven goals and added three assists and seven steals. The Wildcat offense was also led by senior Stacee Jones (Butler, Pa./ Butler) and freshman Carrie Boyle (Redlands, Calif./ Redlands) who scored two goals apiece.
The Villanova goaltending tandem of senior Kara Zogby (Providence, R.I./ Cranston West) and freshman Amanda Sewald (Pittsburgh, Pa./ North Allegheny) combined to hold the Quakers to three goals. Zogby led the Cats with a team-high four saves, while Sewald tallied two in the win.
Villanova will resume play on April 4-5 in the CWPA Tournament at
University, looking to extend upon their six-game winning streak.
