Wildcats Continue Winning Ways, Defeat Iona and Colorado College

ERIE, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats increased their winning streak to four in a row on Saturday afternoon at the Penn State Brehend Invite, defeating Iona, 7-3, and Colorado College, 13-1. The Wildcats improve to 6-7 on the season. Junior Kim Pare (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was 4-for-4 on sprints in addition to putting away two goals and stealing two during the win over Iona. Senior Ellen Howe (San Diego, Calif.) also contributed two goals and two steals, while goalie Jess Wells (Newport Beach, Calif.) saved 10 shots on goal. Freshman Carla Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) scored three goals and drew a penalty shot for the Wildcats, who got assists from Brynn Rooney (Downers Grove, Ill.) and Taylor Schrang (Bellvue, Wash.) Villanova was 1-for-4 shooting on man-up offense, but it didn't hurt them as they cruised to a four-goal victory. The Wildcats then went on to play ferocious offense as they pummeled Colorado College with precise shooting. Pare scored four goals on five shots, and senior Aimee Corsiglia (Mountain View, Calif.) was a perfect 3-for-3 shooting. Nicole Sherry (Poway, Calif.) scored twice while Martinez, Christina Dopp (Stockton, Calif.), Sandra Andersen (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Danielle Hanson (Winter Springs, Fla.) each added a goal for Villanova.
Howe, Oberhauser, Schrang and Sparveri each added assists for the Wildcats. Wells stopped seven shots on goal, in addition to coming up with one steal and two assists.
The Wildcats play two games on Sunday at the Invite, facing Notre Dame at 9:10 a.m. and Ottawa at 1:50 p.m. |
