VILLANOVA, Pa. - At their first-ever home tournament on March 14-15, the Wildcats won all three games at the CWPA Tournament to improve their record to 4-7 and increase their win streak to four, after beginning the season 2-6. Losing their first six games of the season, Villanova has taken the last four behind sophomore Bridgitte Bayster (Chicago, Ill./ Fenwick) who leads the team with 42 goals.
In their first game of the CWPA Tournament on Saturday, March 14, against James Madison University, the Villanova offense was unstoppable as the Wildcats put up 20 goals in a 20-2 win.
Freshman Carrie Boyle (Redlands, Calif./ Redlands) led Villanova with a career-high seven goals, while Bayster scored five goals and added seven steals. In net for the Cats, senior goalie Kara Zogby (Providence, R.I./ Cranston H.S. West) saved three shots to pick up the win.
On Sunday, March 15 against George Washington, the Wildcats extended their winning streak to three games, defeating the Colonials 14-3. Bayster and Boyle led the Villanova offensive assault with four goals apiece, while freshman Katherine Kaufold (Mechanicsburg, Pa., Cumberland Valley) added two goals.
In the day's second game, the Wildcats defeated interstate rival West Chester 16-5. In the victory, Bayster scored six goals and had eight steals, while Boyle tallied four goals and four steals.
Villanova will resume their schedule and look to add to their four-game winning streak on Wednesday, March 18, at home against the University of Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m.
