RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Freshman Carla Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) scored three goals, including the game-winner, as the Wildcats rallied from a four-goal deficit to defeat Occidental, 11-10, Saturday evening at the Lancer Invite. Late Friday evening, Sonoma State defeated Villanova (3-7), 8-5.

Martinez helped lead the offense, which overcame a score of 6-10 to win the game. Defensive efforts from the 'Cats also kept Occidental from scoring again and sealed the victory.

The Wildcats also saw offense from Ellen Howe, who scored three goals and added an assist. Kim Pare had two goals, while Sarah Oberhauser, Nicole Sherry and Brynn Rooney each added one.

Goalie Jess Wells played the first half of the game, allowing seven goals and coming up with six saves. In the second half, freshman Erin Foley saw time in the goal, stopping four shots while allowing three goals.

Howe led the offense for Villanova during the loss to Sonoma State, scoring three times. Pare and Martinez each added a goal for the 'Cats.

Villanova wraps up play at the Lancer Invite on Saturday night when they face CSU-Monteray Bay.
