Water Polo Dominates First Two Home Tourney Games

Villanova, Pa.--- On Saturday, March 11, the Villanova University women's water polo team hosted a CWPA Mid-Atlantic Division Tournament at the Villanova Swim Center. The Wildcats dominated their first two contests of the day. Villanova opened the day strong, defeating Pennsylvania by the score of 18-8. Later in the afternoon, the `Cats went on to beat West Chester, 11-1, to stay perfect at home thus far in 2000.

Against the Quakers of Penn, sophomore Deana Casale and freshmen Veronica Coyle and Alisa Demmin led a strong Villanova offensive effort with three goals apiece. Scoring two goals each were Erin Agee and Carrie Boyle. Rounding out the Wildcat scoring were Janine Kusza, Sharon Fuller, Katherine Kaufold, and Joie Marhefka, who each all posted one goal.

In net, sophomore Carly Sproul got the win to improve to 5-5. Sproul had one block in the game. Junior Amanda Sewald came in to relieve Sproul and had two blocks.

In game two versus West Chester, Villanova was led by a balanced scoring attack. Agee, Fuller and Boyle had two goals apiece, while Kusza, Kaufold, Marhefka, Demmin and Kate Jones all had one.

Sproul started the contest in goal and got the win with two blocks. Sewald again came on, however, and held West Chester scoreless.

The Wildcats will wrap mup Saturday's festivities at 8:15 p.m., as they host the Princeton Tigers.
