Villanova Downed By Long Beach State
Feb 29, 2000 Long Beach, Calif.--- In the first game of its west coast swing on Feb. 29 at Long Beach State, the Villanova women's water polo team lost to the 49ers, 11-5. The Wildcats fall to 4-2 on the season with the loss, while Long Beach State improves to 8-7 with the win.
The 49ers jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first period and increased their advantage to 6-2 at the half way mark. Villanova would score two goals each in the third and fourth periods, but it was not enough as Long Beach State tallied five in the third to take an 11-5 victory.
Stacy Black led the 49ers with six goals. For the Wildcats, senior Brigitte Bayster scored three goals, while junior Carrie Boyle netted two scores. Boyle also dished out a team-high two assists in the loss.
Taking the loss in net despite making eight blocks was sophomore goalkeeper Carly Sproul.
Villanova will resume play on March 2, traveling to UC-San Diego to play at 4:00 p.m.
