Allyson Gillespie begins her fifth season at the helm of Villanova water polo in 2002-03. In 2002, the Wildcats posted a 7-23 overall record off of a nationally competitive schedule. Villanova will look to use the experience they gained from last season's trip to the Eastern Regionals to lead them back to the postseason.

In her inargural campaign in 1999, Gillespie led the Wildcats to a 23-8 mark, highlighted by a season long national ranking. Villanova ended her initial campaign with a third place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Championships, fifth place mark at Eastern Championships and number 19 national ranking. In her second season as the Wildcats head coach, Gillespie guided the Villanova women to an 18-12 mark and a national No. 19 ranking. For their efforts in 2000, Villanova earned berths to both the Mid-Atlantic and Eastern Championships, finishing second and third, respectively.

Gillespie came to the Main Line in 1999 from Bucknell University where she served as head coach for the 1997-98 water polo season.

A 1996 graduate of Bucknell University, Gillespie was a four-year member of the Bison water polo team. Serving as the team captain in 1995 and 1996, she received United States Water Polo Academic All-America distinction in both seasons. In 1996, Gillespie was named to the All-East Water Polo Team.

In addition to her accomplishments for the Bucknell University water polo team, Gillespie also made strides in the pool as a four-year member of the Bison swim team. She served as the swim team captain in 1996.

Gillespie also serves as an assistant coach on both the Northeast Zone youth and open teams. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Gillespie currently resides in Ardmore.
