Dec. 9, 2009
VILLANOVA, Pa.- Sophomore Kim Maroon was named to the 2009 AVCA Division I All-Northeast Region team, the AVCA announced Wednesday afternoon.
Maroon is the third player in Villanova volleyball history to earn all-region honors and the first for the Wildcats since Alona Cherkez in 2007.
At libero Maroon led the Wildcats and the BIG EAST in digs all season and finished with 6.02 digs per set. She broke Villanova's single season record for digs- which had stood since 1995- with 674 overall. Maroon had six matches with 30+ digs, including 45 digs in a win over UConn, which was the second highest total in digs in the NCAA this season.
"Kim had an outstanding season and I am glad that she is being recognized by the AVCA," head coach Josh Steinbach said.
The northeast region encompasses the America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Ivy League, Patriot League and Providence College.
This is the first All-region honor for Maroon. She was also named to the All-BIG EAST second team squad for her performance in 2009.
