VILLANOVA, Pa. - Senior libero Kim Maroon has been named to the 2011 AVCA All-Northeast Region squad for the second time in her career; it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
In a record-breaking season for Maroon she set an NCAA record for digs in a set as she concluded the season with 6.87. She led the NCAA in digs and also set a new BIG EAST single season record with 749 digs.
Maroon was named BIG EAST Libero of the Year for the second consecutive season and earned first team All-BIG EAST honors. She had 20 or more digs in a match on 20 occasions and tallied 40+ digs in a match three times. She also reached her 2,000th career dig this season, becoming the first player in Villanova history to reach 2,000 digs.
This is the second time Maroon has earned all region honors. She was an honorable mention selection in 2010 and named to the all-region squad in 2009. She is just one of three Villanova athletes to earn all-region honors.
The northeast region encompasses the America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Ivy League, Patriot League and Providence College. Maroon is one of nine BIG EAST student-athletes who earned all-region honors.
