Maroon and Mergen Named to All-BIG EAST Second Team

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova sophomores Kim Maroon and Maggie Mergen were named to the All-BIG EAST second team the league office announced Thursday evening at the league's annual awards banquet. At libero Maroon led the Wildcats and the BIG EAST in digs all season and finished 6.02 digs per set. She broke Villanova's single season record for digs- which had stood since 1995- with 674 overall. Maroon had six matches with 30+ digs, including 45 digs in a win over UConn, which was the second highest total in digs in the NCAA this season. She ranks second in the NCAA in digs per set. Mergen led Villanova at middle blocker with 3.17 kills per set and a .322 hitting percentage. She ranks sixth in the conference in hitting percentage and fifth in aces. Mergen was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Oct. 26 and notched double figure kills in 22 matches over the season. She also ranks 112th in the NCAA in hitting percentage. This is the first all-conference selection for Maroon and Mergen.
