Scarlet Knights Knock Out Wildcats
November 13, 1998 Villanova, Pa. - Returning home for their final weekend, Villanova dropped their fifth straight contest to Rutgers 3-1, 15-4, 6-15, 15-13, 15-9. After losing the first game, the Wildcats rallied back in the second behind Elizabeth Jones' six kills to even the match. In the third, Villanova had to play catch up as Rutgers jumped out to a 8-3 lead. The Wildcats were able to close the gap to a mere 13-12 Scarlet Knight advantage, Rutgers ended the game, 15-13.Getting behind in the fourth game, Villanova gave up too much to Rutgers as the Knights closed the door on the Wildcats' post-season chances, taking the fourth game and the match. Villanova (11-16/3-7)was led by senior Elizabeth Jones who tallied 18 kills and 17 digs while Breen Eddinger knocked down 15 kills in the losing effort. For the Scarlet Knights (15-11/6-4), Lola Opadiran recorded a game-high 25 kills. The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Nov. 15 to face Seton Hall.
