Wildcats Travel to USF and Florida Gulf Coast for Final Regular Season Road Trip

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova volleyball team will play its final regular season road matches of the year this weekend with a trip to USF on Friday and a non-conference match-up at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
Villanova is 15-10 overall with a 7-4 conference mark heading in to the weekend's matches. The Wildcats are fourth in the BIG EAST standings and have a chance to clinch a berth in the conference tournament following a win at South Florida. Junior Morgan Petkovich leads the squad with 3.28 kills per set and 2.60 digs per contest. Senior Maggie Mergen has 2.92 kills per set and is hitting .239. Classmate Kim Maroon leads the NCAA with 6.85 digs per outing. She was named to the BIG EAST honor roll for the week following her performance in matches at Rutgers and Seton Hall. Freshman Allie DiBernardo has dished out 10.17 assists per set to her teammates this season.
USF brings a 9-14 record into Friday night's match and the Bulls are 5-5 in conference play. They are currently tied for eighth in the conference. The Bulls are led by Valerie El Houssine who is averaging 3.51 kills per set and has collected 2.01 digs this season. Shelbie Daily has given out 9.29 assists per set and Janice Rivera has tallied 4.18 digs. Last season, Villanova defeated the Bulls, 3-1 in Tampa to close out the conference's regular season. Friday's match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Wildcats will play a non-conference contest at Florida Gulf Coast at 4:00 p.m. This is the first meeting between the two teams. The Eagles are 14-10 overall and own a 7-3 record in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Jill Hopper leads FGCU with 287 kills and ranks sixth in the A-Sun. Setter Gigi Meyer is averaging 8.92 assists per set.
