Volleyball Travels to Rutgers and Seton Hall

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova volleyball team is set to head to Rutgers and Seton Hall this weekend to continue BIG EAST competition. The Wildcats take on Rutgers tonight at 7:00 p.m. and face the Pirates on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Villanova is 14-9 overall and is 6-3 in the conference. Heading in to the weekend the Wildcats are fourth in the conference standings and remain in excellent position for a berth to the BIG EAST Tournament beginning Nov. 19. Last weekend Villanova went 1-1 at home with a 3-1 victory over Connecticut before dropping a 3-0 decision to St. John's. Junior Morgan Petkovich leads the squad with 3.18 kills per set and 2.56 digs per contest. Senior Maggie Mergen is averaging 2.94 kills pert set and is hitting .242. Senior Kim Maroon leads the NCAA in digs with 6.88 each outing. Freshman Allie DiBernardo gives out 10.04 assists to her teammates.
Rutgers is 8-17 overall with a 1-7 conference mark. The Scarlet Knights are led by Hannah Curtis who has 222 kills and averages 2.36 per set. Kallie Pence collects 3.28 digs per set, while Stephanie Zielinski gives out 9.68 assists and has 2.78 digs per contest. Last season the Wildcats defeated Rutgers 3-1 in New Brunswick.
Seton Hall is 13-10 heading in to the weekend and is 4-4 in the BIG EAST. The Pirates have dropped their last three contests after beginning conference play 4-1. Meghan Matusiak leads Seton Hall with 3.62 kills per set and is averaging 2.37 digs. Alyssa Warren is tallying 5.44 digs per contest and as a team the Pirates are averaging 16.72 digs just behind the Wildcats. Last season Villanova defeated Seton Hall 3-1 in South Orange.
