Lauren Carpenter Gathers Second BIG EAST Honor in 2013
Lauren Carpenter finished with a career-high 24 kills and .396 attack percentage in Friday's win over St. John's.

VILLANOVA, Pa. - For the second time this season, sophomore Lauren Carpenter was named to the Volleyball BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 21st, as announced by the conference office Monday, following a career-weekend in which she aided the Wildcats to a 1-1 split against St. John's and Seton Hall.

The outside hitter from Lakewood, Colo. tuned in her best performance as a Wildcat in Friday's, 3-1, victory over St. John's. She accumulated 28 points with career-highs in kills, 24, and hitting percentage, .396, also adding seven digs and two blocks on the night. Carpenter capped off the night with the final kill to put the match away for Villanova.

For an encore, Carpenter accrued a match-high 21.5 points and 18 kills against Seton Hall, while totaling three digs, a service ace and three blocks. The sophomore leads the team with 293 kills and 3.71 kills/set.

This marks the second career-appearance on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for Carpenter in her two seasons at Villanova. She was previously honored by the conference earlier this season for her spectacular play during the week of Sept. 16-22, in which she helped the Wildcats score wins over Delaware, Sacred Heart, Norfolk State and Penn.

Villanova (11-9, 3-4 BIG EAST) will be back on the court this weekend when it travels across the country to take on Marquette (12-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) Saturday at 6 p.m. and DePaul (15-4, 1-4 BIG EAST) Sunday at 4 p.m.

BIG EAST Player of the Week Kelli Browning, Creighton, MB, Jr. Browning helped the Bluejays to wins over Xavier and Butler, which lifted them into first place in the BIG EAST standings with a 5-1 record. She averaged team highs of 3.22 kills, 1.11 blocks and hit .420 for the two matches. In a come-from-behind 3-2 win against Xavier, Browning had 14 kills and five blocks on .458 hitting. In a 3-1 victory over Butler, she posted a match-best 15 kills, tying a season high.



BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Nele Barber, Marquette, OH, Fr. Barber registered 12 kills and hit .429 without an error in a 3-0 win against DePaul. In two meetings against the Blue Demons, Barber has hit a combined .443. Marquette is 4-1 in BIG EAST action and plays host to Creighton, Villanova and Georgetown this weekend.

BIG EAST Honor Roll

Jess Bird, Creighton, OH, Fr. Contributed to wins over Xavier and Butler by averaging 2.11 kills and 3.56 digs per set in the two contests.

Natalie Rizzo, DePaul, MB, Jr. Had 23 kills and hit .426 in a 1-1 week. In a loss to Marquette, hit a season-high .647 and did not commit an error.

Karin Palgutova, St. John's, OH, So. Registered 5.71 kills per set and a .446 hitting percentage in a 1-1 week. In a sweep against Georgetown, she led the match with 18 kills and a .607 hitting percentage.

Stacey Manthorpe, Seton Hall, S, Jr. In a 3-0 week, she recorded double-doubles in wins at Georgetown and Villanova. Had 35 kills and 30 digs in the two league matches.

Lauren Carpenter, Villanova, OH, So. In a 3-1 win over St. John's, had 24 kills and hitting .396. Both totals are career highs. Had a match-high 18 kills in a loss to Seton Hall.
