Villanova, Pa. – Tomorrow, October 7th, the Women’s Volleyball team travels to Georgetown to continue their BIG EAST conference schedule. The match is set for 7 p.m. in McDonough Arena, with live stats available via GameTracker and a live stream available through CollegeSportsLive.
Villanova is now 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST after earning three straight conference victories. All three wins have come in three straight sets, beating Xavier, Butler and St. John’s to take third place in the BIG EAST standings. Over this three game span, senior outside hitter Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif.) has put on an outstanding performance tallying 42 kills, 18 digs and 53.5 points. Mallory Potts (San Antonio, Texas) has also chipped in offensively with 29 kills over the Wildcats three victories. Emma Decker (LaGrange, Ill.) has come back strong with 62 assists in three matches and Allison Fitzgerald (St. Louis, Mo.) filled in nicely for Regan Lough (Riverside, Calif.) at libero with a team-high 10 digs in the win over St. John’s. Villanova also had a season-high 14 blocks in their win over the Red Storm. This three game win streak is the longest the Wildcats have had since they started off the season 3-0 following the University of Virginia tournament.
Georgetown is 7-10 overall and 1-4 in BIG EAST play so far this season. They are currently on a two game losing streak after their 3-1 loss on Wednesday at Seton Hall. This past weekend, the Hoyas went 1-1 at home with a five-set 3-2 victory over Butler on Friday night, and a 3-1 loss against Xavier on Saturday evening. They are led by junior middle blocker Symone Speech, who’s 3.61 kills per set, .410 hitting percentage, 4.19 points per set and 54 blocks are all a team-high. Her hitting percentage is the second best in the conference and her points per set is the third best in the conference. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Sinnette averages 2.54 kills per set, with junior setter Paige McKnight averaging 9.49 assists per set to round out the offense. Junior libero/defensive specialist Kenzie Higareda leads the defense with a team-high 4.04 digs per set. Villanova is 21-29 all-time against the Hoyas, with their last matchup resulting in a 3-1 win at Georgetown last season on October 22nd.
