Women's Volleyball Travels to St. John's for BIG EAST Matchup

Villanova, Pa. – This Wednesday, October 4th, the Women’s Volleyball team travels to St. John’s for a BIG EAST matchup. The match is set for 7 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena, and will be streamed on BIG EAST Digital Network.

Villanova Scout

Villanova (9-6 overall, 2-2 BIG EAST) went 2-0 this weekend in their first home conference matchups. The Wildcats defeated Xavier 3-0 on Friday night in front of a packed Jake Nevin Field House, and defeated Butler Saturday afternoon 3-0 as well. The weekend sweep for Villanova puts them in fourth place in the conference going into their two road BIG EAST matches this week. A huge weekend from senior outside hitter Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif.) assisted the Wildcats in their 2-0 weekend, tallying 37 points on 30 kills in the two matchups. She dominated offensively with 18 kills on a .455 hitting percentage Saturday, helping earn her a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Junior outside hitter Darcy Wolf (Allentown, Pa.) and freshman outside hitter Mallory Potts (San Antonio, Texas) also posted a big weekend offensively, with 17 kills each between the two matches. Sophomore libero Regan Lough (Riverside, Calif.) led Villanova in digs in both matches, with 13 against Xavier and 14 against Butler, while sophomore setter Emma Decker (LaGrange, Ill.) and junior setter Ashley Knight (Omaha, Neb.) evenly distributed the ball with 36 and 37 assists over the weekend, respectively.




St. John’s Scout

St. John’s (9-10 overall, 1-3 BIG EAST) went 1-1 over this past weekend of conference play. The Red Storm earned their first BIG EAST win of the season at home versus Providence 3-0. They are currently on a one game losing streak after falling to #14 Creighton 3-0 at home on Saturday, leaving them at 8th in the conference going into this week. Senior middle blocker/right side hitter Julia Cast leads the Red Storm offense with 4.09 kills per set and 4.25 points per set. Both averages are a conference second-best in their respective category. Other offense comes from freshman outside hitter Jordan McCalla, who averages 2.44 kills per set and sophomore setter Erica DiMaulo, who averages 10.24 assists per set. The St. John’s defense is second best in the BIG EAST in blocks per set with 2.61. Graduate student middle blocker Danisha Moss’ 1.33 blocks per set average leads the Red Storm and is also second best in the conference. Sophomore middle blocker Hanna Wagner averages 1.06 blocks per set, while other defensive help comes from senior libero/defensive specialist Delaney D’Amore who averages a team-high 3.71 digs per set. Villanova is 17-12 all time against St. John’s, with their last matchup resulting in a 3-2 win at Carnesecca Arena on November 4th, 2016.
