Official BIG EAST Release

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Freshman setter Emma Pettit (Ft. Collins, Colo.) has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, as announced this afternoon by the league office. Pettit is the first Villanova player to receive weekly recognition from the conference this season and the award comes on the heels of the Wildcats winning consecutive matches over Rutgers and Seton Hall this weekend to even their league record at 2-2 for the season.

Pettit was instrumental in both wins for Villanova and finished the weekend with totals of 82 assists and 28 digs to go along with nine kills, three block assists and two service aces. She tallied double-doubles (assists-digs) in both victories and has now accomplished that feat four times during the season. Pettit averaged 9.11 assists and 3.11 digs per set in the Rutgers and Seton Hall wins.

The win against the Scarlet Knights on Friday night snapped a six-match losing streak for the Wildcats and Pettit effectively ran the offense in the match with 43 assists, just the third time this season she has surpassed 40 assists in a match. She also added 16 digs, five kills and a service ace.

In the match against Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon Villanova snapped the Pirates 12-match winning streak with a thrilling victory in five sets. Pettit contributed 39 assists, 12 digs, four kills and three block assists as the Wildcats improved to 4-1 on their home court this season.

So far this season Pettit has accumulated 403 assists and 128 digs while playing in 53 of the team's 66 sets. She averages 7.60 assists per set and her average of 2.42 digs per set ranks second on the team. Pettit is also third on the squad with 12 aces and tied for fourth with 22 total blocks.
