Two Wildcats Earn Big East Volleyball Honors

Villanova, Pa.--- On Monday, Sept. 27, junior middle blocker Breen Eddinger (Tacoma, Wash./ Bellarmine Prep) was named the Big East's Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman rightside hitter Erin Birunas (Lancaster, Pa./ Hempfield H.S.) received conference Rookie of the Week accolades. These two Wildcat starters helped lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 record this past week, to improve Villanova's season mark to 7-8.

In four matches last week, Eddinger recorded 75 kills with a 5.77 kills-per-game average and a .304 hitting percentage. She also tallied 37 digs, 13 blocks, six aces and six assists. On Saturday, Sept. 25, Eddinger set a career-high with 31 kills against Cornell University.

Birunas was another key contributor to the Villanova offensive attack this past week. She had an excellent all-around performance with 37 kills, a .300 hitting percentage, 14 blocks, five assists and four aces.

The Wildcats will resume play on Tuesday, Sept. 28, hosting the University of Pennsylvania at 7:00 p.m.
