Anderson Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

VILLANOVA, Pa. - As the Villanova volleyball team continues on its 10-match win-streak, freshman Alyssa Anderson was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and redshirt sophomore Morgan Petkovich earned a spot on the honor roll, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
The Wildcats went 3-0 last week, en route to winning the Villanova Classic for the fourth consecutive year. Anderson dished out 11.18 assists in 11 sets. She also recorded eight service aces and 20 digs. In a five-set victory over Maryland Anderson gave out a career-high tying 55 assists. She was named to the Villanova Classic All-Tournament team.
Petkovich tallied 4.00 kills in 10 sets with just five errors to hit .354 for the weekend. She was perfect in two matches on Sept. 18 recording 13 kills and no errors to hit a blistering .722 clip in a sweep over Long Island. Petkovich also connected on 13 kills with no errors in a sweep over William & Mary and also earned all-tournament honors.
This is the second time that Anderson has earned Freshman of the Week honors. She also earned the title on Sept. 6. This is Petkovich's first conference honor this season and the third overall week that the Wildcats have been recognized.
Villanova will open conference play this weekend traveling to St. John's on Sept. 24 and Connecticut on Sept. 26.
