Volleyball to Host
Sept. 15, 2013
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Following a nine-match road stint to begin 2013, the Villanova (4-5) volleyball squad will return to the Jake Nevin Field House for the "Jam the Jake" event Tuesday at 7 p.m. and take on Delaware at its season home opener.
The Wildcats Men's Basketball team will link with Volleyball to sign autographs for all in attendance before the match tips off. The first 250 fans will receive free t-shirts as well as other giveaways (basketballs, etc.) throughout the night as part of the promotion.
Fans will then join their favorite hoop stars to cheer on a Villanova squad that has had success with the home court advantage. The Wildcats have enjoyed a winning season at home each year since 2002, including a 46-23 record during head coach Josh Steinbach's tenure.
“We are excited to be at home after three weeks on the road,” Steinbach said. “Delaware is a big rivalry for us and we are looking forward to the match as we do every year. I’m hoping that we can get a good crowd in Jake Nevin and that they are engaged in what should be an exciting match.”
The Wildcats are coming off a three-match tournament in College Park, Md. where they finished with significant wins over George Mason (3-2) and New Hampshire (3-0). Villanova has won three of its last four matches, including a 3-1 victory at Lehigh earlier this week.
The Blue Hens are 6-4 on the season which includes a sweep at the Delaware Invitational with wins over Rutgers, Sacred Heart and Furman.
Villanova is 19-19 all-time against Delaware with the last victory coming in 2011 (3-1). The Wildcats will look to take the series lead behind a powerful attack led by underclassmen hitters Lauren Carpenter and Claire Crutchfield.
All home matches will be broadcasted live on Nova National All-Access.
