VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova women’s volleyball team returns home this Friday for their matchup against the Temple Owls. This is their final non-conference match on their schedule, set for 7 p.m. at the Jake Nevin Field House.
Villanova is now 6-4 after falling to Lehigh on Tuesday night. Senior outside hitter Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif.), junior middle blocker Amanda Pedersen-Henry (Murrieta, Calif.) and freshmen outside hitter Mallory Potts (San Antonio, Texas) have provided the Wildcats offense. Potts, this week’s BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, is average a team high 3.32 kills/set. Loitz is second in kills/set with 3.26 and Pedersen-Henry has a team-high 90 kills. Emma Decker (LaGrange, Ill.) is averaging a team-high 10.47 assists per set and defensively, Regan Lough (Riverside, Calif.) leads the team in digs/set with 3.46. The Wildcats look to bounce back from Tuesday’s loss to finish off their non-conference schedule with a victory heading into BIG EAST play.
The Temple Owls are 4-3 on the season, and currently on a three game winning streak going into the match on Friday. After starting the season 1-3, losing three straight to UMBC, Maryland and Colgate, they have turned things around beating St. John’s, Albany and Boston College. Senior outside hitter Izzy Rapacz and redshirt freshmen outside hitter Dana Westfield provide the Owls offense. Rapacz averages a team high 3.00 kills/set, while Westfield is second most in kills with 58. Defensively, junior libero Mia Heirakuji averages 3.46 digs/set and as a team, they have three players that average more than one block per set. Temple is 28-17 all time against Villanova with the last matchup between the two resulting in a 3-0 Owls victory last season.
