Amanda Pedersen-Henry finishes with nine kills as Villanova loses to Lehigh 3-0

Bethlehem, Pa. – Amanda Pedersen-Henry (Murrieta, Calif.) finished with nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage as Villanova loses to Lehigh at Lehigh 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-23) on Tuesday night.

Set 1:
Lehigh got out to a fast start, taking an early 5-1 lead. Villanova was able to answer with a pair of kills from Allie Loitz and Amanda Pedersen-Henry to bring the score to 6-3. Lehigh continued their lead to 11-8, but Villanova responded again with kills by Darcy Wolf (Allentown, Pa.) and Pedersen-Henry. The Mountain Hawks took the next four out of five points, forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout trailing 15-11. Villanova earned a point out of the timeout, but Lehigh kept the pressure on extending their lead to 20-13. The Wildcats fought back, earning three straight points forcing a Lehigh timeout with the score at 20-16. The Mountain Hawks took five of the next six points to win the first set 25-17.


Set 2:
The two teams swapped points to a 7-6 Lehigh lead. The back and forth continued well into the second set, with the Mountain Hawks remaining in the lead at 12-10. Lehigh earned three consecutive points to take a 15-10 lead, forcing a Villanova timeout just like the first set. Out of the timeout, Lehigh was able to earn two more points to extend their lead to 17-10. Villanova took three of the next five points, narrowing the lead to 19-13. The Wildcats continued to fight back, bringing the score to 21-17 on a couple Allie Loitz kills and a block by Darcy Wolf. Lehigh then earned three straight points to bring the score to 24-17 before closing out the second set 25-19.


Set 3:
The Mountain Hawks got out to a 7-3 lead. Villanova took three of the next five points on a few Lehigh errors and a Remy Fairchild (Southlake, Texas) kill to bring the score to 10-6. The Mountain Hawks responded with one quick point forcing a Wildcats timeout at 11-6. Out of the timeout, the Wildcats earned three straight points on a Lehigh error and kills from Myah Massenburg (Glen Allen, Va.) and Darcy Wolf to force a Lehigh timeout at 11-9. Lehigh extended their lead to 14-10, but Villanova responded with three straight points to come within one point at 14-13. Villanova took their first lead of the set at 16-15 after two kills and a block from Fairchild. The two teams battled to a 20-19 Villanova lead, but Lehigh earned two straight points to regain the lead 21-20. The score was knotted at 23 a piece, but Lehigh closed out the set 25-23.

The Wildcats return home this Friday, September 15th, to face off against Temple at 7 p.m. at Jake Nevin Field House.
