VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova volleyball squad (1-4) will return to the court Tuesday at 7 p.m. and travel an hour north to battle Lehigh (5-1) at the Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Wildcats look to bounce back after dropping a double header this past weekend, which included a 3-1 defeat to No. 13 Nebraska in front of 8,321 fans.
"Lehigh is playing very well right now and this is probably the best Lehigh team I've seen in my time at Villanova," Wildcats head coach Josh Steinbach said. "So playing them at their place will be a challenge. Our team will be looking forward to just playing better and we will have a chance to do that tomorrow night."
The Mountain Hawks are riding a five-match winning streak, which includes shutout victories over Rhode Island, Fairleigh Dickson and Saint Peter's twice after dropping their season opener, 3-2, to New Hampshire.
Villanova has owned the series against Lehigh with a 21-5 record, including a perfect 2-0 during Steinbach's tenure with the last victory coming a year ago.
Freshmen duo Michaela Berendt and Claire Crutchfield were impressive against Nebraska and Southern Miss. Berendt totaled 16 kills on 41 attacks (.323 pct.) and six blocks in seven sets, including a team-high 11.5 points against a nationally ranked squad. Crutchfield added a team-high 15 kills on 36 hits (.333), two digs and a block versus Southern Miss Saturday.
