Villanova Volleyball Announces Three Recruits for Fall 2000
May 8, 2000 Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova University volleyball program and head coach Heather Hoehn are pleased to announce the signing of three recruits for the fall 2000 season: Jennifer Edwards (Valencia, Calif.), Amanda Guralski (Wauwatosa, Wis.), and Kate Tucker (River Forest, Ill.). In reference to the incoming class, Hoehn said, "We are pleased to welcome an extremely talented freshmen class to the Villanova Volleyball family. These three young ladies come from very competitive volleyball programs - a situation which will help make the transition to the college level smooth. We anticipate that Jennifer, Kate, and Amanda will make an immediate impact on the success of the program." Edwards, at 5'9", primarily was the setter for her Valencia High School team. A starter since 1996, Edwards was also team captain in 1999. She also played for the Thunder club team coached by Tuong Nquyen. A three-year Scholar Athlete award winner, Coach Hoehn said that Edwards "is a fiery competitor who has been trained by one of the top setting coaches in the country. Her athleticism and leadership skills will certainly help take this program to the next level. We have very high expectations for Jennifer." Guralski, a 5'8 1/2" setter and utility player from Wauwatosa East High School, played her club volleyball for the Milwaukee Sting under Jenny Hahn and Ted Schulte. In high school, Guralski also lettered in basketball and softball, while excelling in volleyball under coach Joe Lynch. Hoehn sees Guaralski as "a versatile and athletic player who will contribute both at the setting a right side hitting positions. Her leadership and passion for the game will provide immediate benefits for the program." Out of Oak Park River Forest High School, Tucker is a 5'11" outside hitter who was named her team's most valuable player for the 1998-99 season and is a dean's list student. Coached by John Kasik in high school, Tucker is described by Hoehn as "a true terminator on the outside who also puts up a devastating block. Kate is a quiet, yet aggressive player who will add depth to the outside hitting position."
