April 7, 2014

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Allison Fitzgerald of Visitation Academy will join the Villanova volleyball team for the 2014-15 season, as she filled out all the necessary paper work to become a Wildcat. The 5'10 defensive specialist/libero joins middle blocker Cara Cunningham as part of the 2014 class.

"We are excited to have Allie as a part of the program. She is a reliable passer and sees the game very well," Villanova head coach Josh Steinbach added. "Allie will excel academically, making her a perfect fit for Villanova. I expect that she will have an immediate impact in our gym."

As the team captain, Fitzgerald led Visitation Academy to a 29-5 record as a senior, which earned her First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State in Missouri. Fitzgerald was impressive throughout her high school career and was named First Team All-Conference as a junior and senior. She also earned First Team All-District honors since her sophomore campaign.

The St. Louis, Mo. native was a straight-A student and National Honor Society member throughout high school. She was part of the talented Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club and helped her team place seventh and 11th twice at the USAV Open National Championships.

"I chose to attend Villanova because of the great academics, the beautiful campus and because I was so excited to be a part of Villanova's volleyball program," said Fitzgerald.
