Volleyball Holds Recognition Banquet
April 3, 2007 Villanova, Pa. - The 2006 edition of the Villanova Wildcats women's volleyball team held their annual end of the season awards banquet to recognize the acheivements of many of the players and to set their sights towards a successful 2007 campaign. The banquet was held in the St. David's room in the Connelly Center on the Villanova University Campus. After a recap of the season from senior middle blocker Adrian Semrau and head coach Gilad Doron, the individual awards were handed out to three players. Sophomore Alona Cherkez was named Most Improved Player after improving her hitting percentage by fourty percentage points over her freshman year. She also improved in points scored as well as blocks per game and total digs. The Coaches' Award went to junior outside hitter Kacy Sellers. Sellers posted a hitting percentage of .318, the third best single season percentage in Villanova history. The Team Most Valuable Player Award went to senior middle blocker Adrian Semrau. Semrau wrapped up her four year career at Villanova with a tremendous senior season. She was named second team All-BIG EAST and ranks in the top five in numerous career and single season categories. She also surpassed the 1,000 kill mark early in the season and ended up wiht 1,187 kills for her career. The banquet was concluded with a picture slideshow with photos from various matches throughout the season as well as pictures from the team's trip to California to start the season.
