Wildcats Extend Home Winning Streak, Beat Delaware 3-0
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Entering the game with a 14-game home winning streak, the Villanova volleyball team beat Delaware 3-0 (15-12, 15-4, 15-8) on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Jake Nevin Field House, to improve their record to 9-5 on the season and extend their home winning streak to 15 games.
The Wildcats were led by junior Megan O'Brien (San Jose, CA./ St. Francis H.S.) who tallied a game-high 11 kills, to go along with 10 digs. Junior Elizabeth Jones (Los Altos, CA., St. Francis H.S.), who came into the match first on the Villanova team in both kills (127) and digs (165), contributed eight kills and 17 digs in the Wildcat victory.
Playing without injured setter Stacey Moline, the Wildcats turned to freshman backup Cathy Arnette (Chesapeake, VA./ Western Beach H.S.) and senior co-captain Marisa Davidson (Mt. Airy, MD./ Glenelg H.S.), who filled in with 19 and 12 assists respectively. For Delaware (6-5), Joanna Dusza had a team-high seven kills in the loss.
With their fifteenth straight home victory, the Wildcats are now 22-4 in the Jake Nevin Field House since 1995. Last season, Villanova compiled an 8-0 record at home, and are now 2-0 at home thusfar in 1997.
The Wildcats travel to Temple next to play the Owls on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m. Villanova doesn't play at home again until Oct. 31, when they will try to extend their home winning streak to 16 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
