Villanova Falls to Seton Hall
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.--Tonight, in women's volleyball action at Seton Hall's Walsh Gymnasium, the Villanova Wildcats lost a hard-fought 3-2 match to the host Pirates.
With the win, Seton Hall improves to 16-11 overall and 4-4 in the Big East Conference, while the Wildcats fall to 16-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Seton Hall came out strong in the opening game claiming a 15-8 win. Villanova rebounded with two-straight wins in games two and three by identical 15-11 scores.
The Pirates evened the match at 2-2 with a 15-9 victory in game four. In the fifth and deciding game, Seton Hall tallied a convincing 15-6 win to earn the match.
Villanova was led by senior Stacy Evans (Sr., Los Altos, Calif) who tallied a team-high 23 kills to go along with six blocks. The Wildcats also got strong play from Elizabeth Jones (Jr., Los Altos, Calif) who recorded 21 kills and 19 digs and Marisa Davidson (Sr., Mt. Airy, Md) who had 14 kills and four blocks.
Cathy Arnette (Fr., Chesapeake, Va) registered a match-high 72 assists in the losing effort.
Seton Hall was paced by outside hitter Jennifer Cheshire who tallied a match-high 29 kills and Kadri Kruus who had 18 kills.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Nov. 9 when they finish their weekend road trip with a 2 p.m. match at Big East rival Rutgers.
