Women's Volleyball Defeats Providence

VILLANOVA, Pa.- On a cold day outside at Villanova University, the Wildcat volleyball team heated up Jake Nevin Field House inside with a three game victory over the Lady Friars of Providence on Saturday, Nov. 15, by the scores of 15-10, 15-9, 15-7. With the win, Villanova improved their record to 18-7 overall and 8-2 in the Big East Conference.

Villanova got off to a quick start led by junior Elizabeth Jones (Los Altos, CA./ St. Francis H.S.), who finished the match with 14 kills and nine digs. After a 15-10 victory in game one, the Wildcats kept up the hot streak, with senior Marisa Davidson (Mt. Airy, MD/ Glenelg H.S.), putting forth an outstanding performance. Davidson finished tied with Jones, for the team-high in kills with 14, to go along with eight digs.

In the third game, senior Stacy Evans (Los Altos, CA./ St. Francis H.S.) put the Lady Friars away, leading Villanova to a 15-7 win. Evans ended the day with 11 kills and eight digs. With her 11 kills, Evans is just four behind the all-time Villanova record held by Becky Kulbago.

Providence was led by Sherrl Jones, who tallied a game high 16 kills to go along with 11 digs. Heidi Filippi also had nine kills and seven digs for the Lady Friars, who fell to 21-13 overall and 4-6 in the Big East with the loss.

Villanova will have have their home finale and will wrap up their regular season, on Sunday, Nov. 16 against the Boston College Eagles at 1 pm.
