Evans Leads Villanova To Undefeated Weekend
Davidson Notches 1,000th Kill as Villanova Beats Georgetown
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Down two games to one, the Villanova volleyball team came back to defeat Georgetown 3-2 (15-7, 8-15, 9-15, 15-11, 15-13) on Saturday, Oct. 25, in a match played at McDonough Arena on the campus of Georgetown University. The victory was the Wildcats ninth straight as they improved their record to 15-5 overall and 5-0 in the Big East Conference.
After winning the first game 15-7, Villanova dropped the next two games to the Hoyas, to fall behind 2-1. Behind senior Stacy Evans (Los Altos, CA/ St. Francis H.S.) 22 kills, however, the Wildcats came back to defeat Georgetown, and remain unbeaten in conference play.
In addition to the comeback victory for the Wildcats, Saturday was a special day for yet another reason. Facing off against her sister who is a sophomore on the Georgetown volleyball team, Villanova senior Marisa Davidson (Mt. Airy, MD/ Glenelg H.S.) tallied 16 kills in the match to go over the 1,000 mark for her career. Davidson is only the fourth Wildcat to ever reach the 1,000 kill milestone.
Ranked in the top 20 in the nation in digs coming into the match, junior Elizabeth Jones (Los Altos, CA./ St. Francis H.S.) was also outstanding in helping lead the Villanova rally, as she recorded 15 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Ruth Ann Blankenheim (Lighthouse Point, FL./ Cardinal Gibbons H.S.) had 10 kills and 16 digs in the victory.
Villanova will head home to resume their Big East schedule on Friday, Oct. 31, against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 8 pm.
