On Sunday, Nov. 11, the Villanova Volleyball team dropped their last regular season match of the 2001 season to the Pittsburgh Panthers in three consecutive games. Scores for the match were 30-21, 30-28 and 30-26.

In the loss, Villanova was led by junior hitter Leah Mathews (Poway, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) who tallied 11 kills and 10 digs on the afternoon. Freshman blocker Kerri Sullivan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) came off the bench for the 'Cats to hit 13 of 29 for a .310 hitting percentage. Senior Dana Jones (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) also added 10 kills for the Wildcats. Defensively, sophomore Jennifer Edwards (Valencia, Calif/Valencia) led Villanova with 12 digs.

Pittsburgh was led by the sophomore duo of Wendy Hatlestad and April Puzauskas. Hatlestad paced the Panthers with a game-high 16 kills while Puzauskas tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Junior setter Carrie Norris assisted the duo with a game-high 46 assists.

Prior to the match, Villanova honored their three graduating seniors, Jacqueline Fugiel (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah), Dana Jones (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) and Libby Sybilrud (Atlanta, Ga./Marist). The trio had the most productive year of their careers combining for 558 kills, 404 digs and 127 total blocks in the 2001 season.

Villanova ends the regular season with an overall record of 7-17 and 2-10 in the Big East. Pittsburgh improves to an overall 10-15 and 7-5 in conference action.
