PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Villanova University volleyball team (16-10, 8-4 BIG EAST) dominated host Rutgers University (3-18, 1-10 BIG EAST) today (Nov. 3). Leading the way was senior Alona Cherkez who recorded team-highs 21 kills and 16 digs. Senior Kacy Sellers had 14 kills while hitting a remarkable .600.
Sophomore Chelsea Graman dished out 49 assists while four Wildcats recorded two service aces.
As a team, everyone on the roster put in valuable minutes as every player played in every game.
Coming into the match, Cherkez needed only 11 kills to tie the BIG EAST single season record for kills in a conference season. She wasted no time getting to work as she recorded nine kills in the first game, one more than the entire Rutgers lineup.
Game one was a dominating victory for the Wildcats as they defeated the Sacrlet Knights 30-16. VU's lead was never in jeopardy as they racked up a 4-0 lead and never looked back.
Game two was much like game one as Villanova rolled to a 30-19 victory. Cherkez recorded five more kills in the second frame to break the BIG EAST record of 132 kills in BIG EAST play.
The dominance continued into game three as VU won 30-20.
The Wildcats will next be in action Friday November 9 at 7 p.m. as they travel to Syracuse.
